Born in a tiny beautiful village in the north of Poland, I witnessed the fall of communism and the influence it had on a small communities. In search for understanding the complex phenomena of human existence I went to study Philosophy at the Nicolas Copernicus University in Torun. It was then I fell under the spell of monadology of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. and logical ontology of prof Jerzy Perzanowski. Both offered plausible and reliable answers to the question of the essence of human nature. After moving to the UK I continued studying Philosophy (Birkbeck, University of London) and eventually decided to explore the world beyond Academia. Working as a travel photographer I came to appreciate various culture and languages, the unique character of indigenous communities across Latin America, simultaneously noticing the effects that neo-liberal policies have on the poorest peoples of countries such as Mexico or Guatemala, where Noam Chomsky's critical concept of ‘Profit over people’ can be seen with naked eye. During my travels I also learnt to embrace the world as a very complex entity and in consequence comprehend that there are no better or worst – cultures, languages, religions, that we are all different and equally deserve mutual respect and regardless or despite of the background, country of origins, economical status etc our voices deserve to be heard. At the moment I study Translation at London Metropolitan University whilst engage with various voluntary projects such as Translators for Progress or Original Volunteers.

Linda Jaivin: seks, sinologia i tłumaczenie

The Bridge  22 kwiecień 2014
